Malaysia RM1 Kuala Lumpur 2000 Thomas Cup Uber Cup Commemorative

The bimetal coin is made of two different types of alloys with two different colours. The outer ring of the coin is golden yellow in colour and is made of nordic gold, a combination of copper, aluminum and nickel. The core (inner part of the coin) is made of cupro-nickel, a combination of copper and nickel with silver colour. This is the first time Bank Negara has issued a bicolour commemorative coin. The bimetal coin which has a face value of RM1, is minted at a limited quantity of 2 million pieces.
The commemorative coins design where on the obverse side of the coin depicts the image of the Thomas Cup with a shuttlecock in the background. The words "KUALA LUMPUR 2000" and "PIALA THOMAS/UBER" is displayed on the upper and lower part of the side.
The reverse side of the coin depicts the face value of the coin with a combination of old and modern architecture in the background. Sultan Abdul Samad Building and Malayan Railway Building represent the old architecture whereas Petronas Twin Towers and Kuala Lumpur Tower represent the modern architecture.
